Creative and practical: that's how I respond when people ask me what media at
Swanwick Hall is all about. All our courses are designed so that all students
will take part in the creation of exciting media products like music videos,
short films, photography portfolios and adverts for television - we also offer
specialist units in interactive media like 3d animation, game environments and
2d game development. This is a highly rewarding process that can lead to more
advanced study and very exciting careers if students choose to. But even if
students don't want to continue this career path, they will find that they have
gained something highly valuable from it.
We offer the following courses:
KS4: BTEC Extended Certificate in Creative Media Production (equivalent to two GCSEs)
Extra curricular: Film Club (Weds), Manga Club (Thurs), Media Club (Thurs)
KS5: BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Television and Film
Next academic year (from September 2013) we are hoping to offer an exciting media curriculum at KS3 and game development/photography at KS5.
Our software and resources
We currently use a mixture of Blender 2.49 & 2.65, Stop Motion Pro, Sony Vegas Pro 11 and Games Factory 2 for our production work - these offer the best workflow environments for students across the key stages.
We have a variety of cameras and in the last 12 months have moved over to HD exclusively, despite the problems this often entails! Our You Tube channel is growing well and I have started to upload tutorials for you to use free in the classrom.
