The KS4 Curriculum

Picture
Our BTEC Extended Certificate in Creative Media Production starts with a practical induction lasting six weeks: during this time students learn basic filming and editing techniques by making a short film as well as learning the wider context and theory of film production. After half term, students start their first specialist unit (video production) based on the sweded films in Be Kind Rewind, core skills are developed in pre production (storyboarding, shot analysis etc) and specialist production techniques likes advanced shots and chroma key/matte.

Then the real fun begins as students take an existing film and develop ideas for creating their own copy of it. After creating shooting scripts, storyboards and props the production process begins. Current Yr10 students have chosen to copy a wide range of films - from action packed epics like Lord of The Rings to the Matrix, Harry Potter, Paranormal Activity to Predators and even Rocky! Students work in small groups, each having ownership for the development and realisation of a particular part of the story.

All students have key skills to develop and must take responsibility for creating a portfolio for assessment (the course is 100% coursework).

Look out for students around school filming their versions of exciting blockbuster movies!
