The KS5 Curriculum
BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Television and Film (Level 3)
This 2 year course is designed to cover a wide range of practical units. In year 12 students will undertake a short 6 week prop film induction, 2 specialist units (Music Video Production and Advertising for Television) lasting approximately 12 weeks each and a core unit. Key assessment information is provided at the beginning of each unit and students are offered a number of tutorials to help them track their progress and identify areas for improvement. As assessment is 100% coursework it is important that students joining our course are able to meet deadlines in a timely fashion, and are prepared to work with a range of other students accross different groups/subjects: the Music Video Production unit for example relies on linking up with BTEC Music clients in yr13. All students will receive a handbook once registered, and are encouraged to explore and document their own media interests outside of lessons through Vlogs, Blogs, website creation and their own video production work. Year 13 challenges students to undertake more specialised study in Film and Television and in order to prepare for University application, at least one specialist unit is negogiated with students to ensure that year 13 is an important and decisive step towards working in the burgeoning creative media industries.
As part of student enrichment we offer an exciting NCFE Level 2 course in photography. Aimed at all levels, it will enable anyone with an interest in learning the technical and creative aspects of digital and film photography to develop a professional portfolio. The course consists of 3 units (please click on the image to the right to go to the main Photography page), and is internally assessed and externally examined. All equipment is provided, however students are encouraged to use their own camera equipment where possible.
